The proposed changes to the immigration rules after Brexit have recently been leaked in a Home Office paper.
The 82-page document outlines the Governments intentions to end free movement and introduce a new immigration system. The proposed immigration rules aim to control the volume of both temporary and permanent migration from the EU as well as aiming to make British workers a priority for UK employers.
The document suggests that those in “highly-skilled occupations” could be granted a permit, giving temporary leave to remain for a period of 3 to 5 years, whilst other lower-skilled occupations could be a maximum of 2 years.
The right to settle in the UK could end for European migrants and tougher restrictions could apply for their family members.
The plans are not yet finalised but shows the thinking of the Home Office on the subject.
